The Outlaws Relationship with Dick Grayson

I've been thinking about Nightwing a lot lately because of Forever Evil. A lot of his connections in the DCnU aren't clear. After thinking about the love triangle with Starfire and Batgirl I started thinking about what was shown in RHATO. It's kind of vague what he thinks about Jason Todd, Koriand'r and Roy Harper much less what they think of him. Even with one of these relationships shown in other books.

Scott Lobdell back on RHATO

What he says and just some thoughts I have on it.

DC plans to celebrate big for Batmans' 75th Anniversary

Some of their plans are outlined here for the big 75th anniversary including the official logo for the event. I'm looking forward to a lot of this but it's funny because while I enjoy the character I'm a much bigger fan of his family than Batman himself. I'd kind of like a mini series or a bunch of one shots exploring all the bat clan and their relationship to Bruce. Maybe that Robin idea that floated around for awhile based on adventures from all the Robins time as his sidekick. Something special for Kate, Barbara, Luke and of course Alfred.

I wonder if their be any extras besides the free Batman comic on "Batman Day." July 23 should be fun if I can get in the front door to my LCS.

Earth 2 Vol 1: The Gathering

I brought this digitally, I bring that up because while searching the index for Booster titles I was surprised to see they have the first few issues of Extreme Justice. If I ever feel brave enough to see the legendary bad art it might make for entertaining read. Might, I'm not sure if EJ is a "so bad it's good" read or a "why did I get this?" read. Anyway...

Weekly Comics List

I think Forever Evil #7 was on this list before it was moved three more times. Anyway:

  • Superman #29: I'm getting this for one reason, Starfire is going to be in it. She dislikes Superman and her race seems to have a mad on for his people. I hope to see this explored more as I'm curious to the reasons. Regardless stories where heroes dislike Superman can be fun to read. Since Lobdell is also writing a Starfire story in Secret Origins #2 I hope this is a hint of things to come if he does return to Red Hood and the Outlaws.
  • Serenity Leaves of the Wind #3: The pace picked up last issue so if the humor and twists come back it will be just like an episode of Firefly.

DC Collectibles Catwoman

Catwoman was from the supervillains vs. heroes gift set, the only new figure among the reissued and repainted figures. I didn't get the set just bought this one on ebay for a surprisingly decent price.

Weirdest Thing I read all Month

I'm sure there were weirder things in other books but as far as what members of the bat family can do? Jason seems to be adding to that list more and more lately.

At first Jason just used mystical swords called the All Blades to kill the Untitled under Lobdell. Tynion made Jasons' chest glow and pull out magical swords with no explanation. Now Pfeifer has added another odd magic trick.

Is Booster Gold Canadian in the new 52?

The answer is actually a little tricky.

Nrama: It's been pointed out that Booster Gold is supposedly Canadian. Is there any possibility that we'll see Booster Gold in this comic?

Lemire: [Laughs.] That's a good one. You know, Booster Gold is Canadian, but if you ask Dan Jurgens, the man who created him, he's not. So I'm going to stay totally away from that one. [Laughs.] I'm working with Dan on Futures End, so I have to be good to Dan.
So yeah, no Booster.

Nothing against Canada but I like that Booster was from Gotham. Respect Dan Jurgens especially after they threw his run away in the JLI Annual.

Pfeifer talks about his run on RHATO

Just some highlights from the interview and my thoughts on them.

DC Really does mean Forever

Forever Evil #7 along with books that tie into it have been delayed. FE was already delayed to April 2nd now it's May 21st. Already there's speculation that this is messing up other books like Batman Eternal which won't be able to mention Dick for several issues before this is sorted out. If I just went with my gut instinct to not get this series it wouldn't affect me. But I had to see what Nightwing did (nothing) and I don't even care about the next issue. I think he'll be fine and nothing else interests me.

Short Review: Green Lantern New Guardians #29

I haven't read GL stuff in the new 52 and have been thinking of getting into one of the books at some point in trade. I got this issue because of the appearance of X'Hal, the goddess Starfire worships.
Before the reboot X'Hal was a goddess created by the same alien race that gave the Tamaran royal family (Komand'r, Koriand'r and Ryand'r) their powers. You'd think they'd learn the first time. If I remember correctly she wasn't from Tamaran in the original version and went Dark Phoenix at some point. So what's changed?

Red Hood and the Outlaws #29

Will Pfeifers' first issue of his three parter, I don't know if he'll do more or if Lobdell is returning but let's see how Pfeifer does in the meantime.

Favorite RHATO Scenes: Anything with Isabel Ardila

I took a break from posting these after being bummed out over RHATO #28 which didn't handle Isabel and her relationship with Jason properly. It wasted the character and didn't have the best understanding of her. Isabel Ardila is a good character with incredible potential that could have added a lot to the series if she stayed on. I don't know if Lobdell is returning to the book or if he would bring her back if that's the case but she helped give new insight that was sorely needed.

Solicits for June

More flip flopping on Lobos' character design, the monthly dose of GL bondage and something that actually surprised me.

More Scribblenauts Toys!

Wave 3:

Wave 4:

I have gotten these yet since I'm worried this would end before I get the characters I want like Booster. Not to mention characters that never had figures like Rip Hunter or Gabriel Walker.

Unpopular Opinion Time: Damian Wayne Resurrection

Morrison wanted to kill Damian Wayne since he first started writing him then decided to keep him around longer to make his death have more of a meaning. I've already talked about my feelings on Robin deaths here. I want to talk about something that seems to be building up in Batman and Robin lately and why the fallout of the death it's self feels lacking. Damians' possible resurrection and why I'm not as taken with it as others are.

The Real Power Couple?

Does this mean Batman/Superman is just as canon as Wonder Woman/Superman? Because I gotta say this already feels like a more gripping drama.

Welcoming Stephanie Brown back to DC

Dustin Nguyen did a proper Lil' Gotham Tribute for Steph. Naturally Tim is thrilled while Damian plays it off like he doesn't care. I'm not sure what to make out of Jasons' look other than him wanting to eat the waffles.

Weekly Comic List

Nothing for this week although I do have one--maybe two--picks for next week. Will new writer Will Pfeifer return greatness to my formerly favorite series?

  • Red Hood and the Outlaws #29: If you've been following my RHATO posts you know that I hated Tynions run. Now Pfeifer is taking over and I can only hope he truly loves and gets these characters. Not to mention read Lobdells' run. Normally I could overlook a few of a writers' not-so-great stories but I feel jaded since I was burnt by the promises of the last run.
  • Green Lantern New Guardians #29: The only reason I'm thinking about this is because of the goddess X'Hal appearing. ...You know, the one who has her name evoked by Kori? She did appear in the last 'verse but I'm curious to see what they do here. I'll skim it in the store before I decide to get it.

Time Masters Prologue

Before I go over this series I thought I should do a little background on it so the writers' intents are more apparent. Here are a few excerpts from Lewis Shiners' piece "The Old, Weird Stuff" found at the back of the Time Masters trade.

Someone Finally Clues Bruce in

The Batman/Superman Annual didn't acknowledge what happened in Batman and Red Hood #20. That was the last time Bruce and Jason saw each other but there were still some good interactions between the two. This scene was the closest we actually got to bringing it up as Jason reacts to Bruces' warning.

The page and my thoughts under the cut.

Batman/Superman Annual #1

After two delays this book is out. Superman and Batman bring along Supergirl, Red Hood, Steel and Batgirl. Will it follow past and current canon? Will anyone get along?

Forever Evil #6

Looks like we're finally--FINALLY--going to get to something interesting. IE. the reason why I got this series in the first place, Nightwing and his connection to the bats. This wasn't spoiled for me before I read it but I saw a lot of people bemoaning this book.

Red Robin!

Tim Drake finally gets his new figure from the new 52. I don't know why this wasn't revealed with the other Teen Titans but I'm glad to see it. That crosses another one off my list! Here's a look at some of the updates of already listed figures too.

When was the last time you enjoyed a Event?

If you're into the main two comic companies you've seen your share of event comics. Tie ins, one shots, etc. But when was the last time you actually liked the main book it's self? A couple of Snyder Batman crossovers had me preferring the tie ins (I haven't gone through Year Zero yet.) Does Justice League Generations Lost count or is it just considered a spin off of Brightest Day? Maybe 52? At the moment I can't think of anything else that works.

I like the idea of events but they haven't really been delivering. Some of them I didn't follow because I didn't care (Trinity War) others have just been boring.

Making Snow Bases

DCC has released this video on how to make snow covered bases with the proper texture. I haven't tried this myself but it looks simple enough.

Five Years later tie in issues?

I've been thinking about this and if this is just a bunch of one shot of heroes dealing with DCs' T-100s of OMACs? I'm not interested. If this is about heroes having different lives like--just throwing this out there--family, then I'm looking forward to it.

Booster Gold #25 (Volume 1)

The last issue of vol. 1 this takes place between Millennium 7 and 8. Booster has ran off with a member of the Chosen named Xiang prompting some concern. I can tell you right away I definitely see this issue differently after reading Millennium.
