I do wonder how much Lobdell gets involved, usually he lets the artists have free range but there are things he wants to see. Wings on Tim comes to mind. I think there were other artists that made the uniform work but not everyone. Yeah, just the detail of Jason taking off the tie and unbuttoning a couple of buttons says a lot too.

It's really starting to tick me off and made the ending even sadder for me. I don't trust most writers with Jason and the staff constantly hinders Lobdell. True, the strong character work always made the issue good.Erin S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15663158782066282265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3056373842046198497.post-87319806568662712192016-06-10T04:41:20.581-07:002016-06-10T04:41:20.581-07:00Agree. I don't know if it's how Lobdell wanted it, but both Jason and Roy's clothing styles have been very consistent with what we saw in RHATO. Yes I agree that a well-dressed Jason also speaks a lot more about his personality than a biker look would do. I like that that one time he Jason had a tie, he ditched it as soon as they got off the plane. Don't know why people are so against Medri design for Red Hood suit though. It fits with the tone at the beginning of the series and it looks great. Granted, I think it only looks great when Medri draws it.

Its a shame that again editorial mandate prevented Lobdell from building up something long lasting for Jason. I was sad to see the Untitled plot finished the way it did (Essence was such a potential character), and now both Underbelly and the Hero Magnifesto turned into a joke. Luckily, the weakest issues for me were all saved by pretty good character work, so there wasn't any issue that I felt truly disappointed about.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09126436921160299669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3056373842046198497.post-82242943285913575132016-06-09T14:52:24.809-07:002016-06-09T14:52:24.809-07:00Art: It was disappointing to see him go but I can ...Art: It was disappointing to see him go but I can understand his reasoning. Good to know, I'll have to look later on. I'll never get the crap he got from people over his style or designs. Even if you don't like the looks at least he was creating something different from the usual designs. The new bat looks are all slightly different old costumes.

Set Up: RHA was more structured than RHATO and it's end is sadder. I really wish Jason wasn't being forced away from the arc Lobdell was building up and Roy wasn't being pushed in another direction.

Villains: I will always rant against the editorial pushes that get rid of potential rogues galleries especially for the Robins. Their shooting themselves in the foot.

I kinda of pay attention to what others think but only in a passing way. Like if someone I talk to mentions it or I see comments on facebook. I just get tried of the BS these series get.

Characters: I was pleased she survived too. I want to see her again and hope she continues to help Jason.

Me too. I think Jason needs someone that gets him, is a normal person and shares a past with him during his pre-Robin days.Erin S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15663158782066282265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3056373842046198497.post-14654043924109807192016-06-09T13:42:19.786-07:002016-06-09T13:42:19.786-07:00Great overview. So let's go for points
Art:
...Great overview. So let's go for points

Art:

Medri is indeed a great artists that has a pretty distinctive style but that sadly wasn't quite ready to commit at the insane working schedule the big two demand from their artists. While he delivered a fantastic job to Marvel during Spiderverse, deadlines hindered his work on RHA and that was the reason behind his premature departure from the book. A real shame because he did put a lot of detail in his pages (by the way, in that panel you used of the boys in the dinner, Medri drew himself in the background. He's the bearded guy behind Jason)and his costumes quickly became my favorite look for the boys.

Setup:

I agree, the series started strong but as soon Editorial started interfering it took a small dive in quality, only recovering until these last three issues. Is a shame DCYOU failed like that because RHA was one of the finest series Jason has starred in.

Villians:

Indeed there was a lot of missed potential on the characters introduced through the series run. Underbelly sudden shift being the biggest tell of editorial demanding changes at Lobdell's original pitch. At least he could do a great story with JD.

also I couldn't help but notice how reception for the book shifted favorably once the boys left the Nethers. Everyone was very pleased with JD and while not caring much for the Iron Rule they enjoyed the info they added to Roy's backstory.

New Characters:

Tara was a great idea that went undersued by reasons beyond Lobdell's control. i was pleased that she survived the series so maybe she might show down the line in RHATO Vol. 2

Gabby was also a great addition that went painfuly underutilized, so much potential she brought to Jason. Again, I hope we can see her again.Dark_Tzitziminehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17055905660404131186noreply@blogger.com
