Batwoman/Nocturna

I dropped Batwoman awhile back but recently I skimmed some spoilers and its a good thing I stopped getting it. After the marriage veto we have another controversy which the author claims isn't what readers assume.

Reading List for Convergance

I've been debating this for awhile because a lot of books are coming out and none of them are $2.99. Still I think I can budget this out and it's not like I normally go on a shopping spree for new comics. That said this might be the first time I get all my comics digitally.

Convergance: After Forever Evil I'm the most cautious about getting this series. But the difference is it actually involves characters I'm interested in. Part of me is thinking "the Time Masters will just be pushed to the background" but I've missed them. Hopefully it will be worth the risk.

Kanan: A series following the lead from his time as a padawan through order 66 and beyond. Showing how he became the man in Star Wars Rebels.

Princess Leia: It turns out I was mistaken and this is a mini series so I should get all the issues.

Batgirl: This is the only time I can truly be happy with a Batgirl book and has Cassandra and Stephanie in it.

Booster Gold: Yeah like I'd skip this one, I just hope he does more than his Futures End one shot.

Anything else I wanted to get I'll wait to get sometime down the line.

Writing Letters to Comics Companies

I think I only ever wrote three letters to comic companies. Two to Marvel and one to DC. One was to praise a book, one to complain about the decline of the writing and the last I praised one book then said what was bothering me about another. I'm not 100% sure if I mailed the Marvel ones (more like 70%) but I mailed the last. I don't think anyone prints letter pages anymore but does anyone respond via e-mail or snail mail?

Red Hood and the Outlaws #38

Since the last two issues were the Christmas annual and the story of Roy/ Ollie history I'll do a recap. Not just for this arc but for a character we haven't really seen since RHATO #7.

DC Collectibles answers Fan Questions

Including my main concern with joint breakage which they have heard enough to delay lines to assure stronger material is used. Certain things they can't reveal although they have hinted at doing something after Convergence and something controversial. I'm drawing a blank what that can be as I don't think they have Liefield action figures planned.

Spider-Verse Team Up #3

I bought this to support Mayday Parker just like I got Scarlet Spiders for Ben and Kaine. Let's see how this issue faired.

Convergence 1-4 Solicits

I've been considering whether or not to get this series.

Pros:
  • Rip Hunter and Time Masters.
  • It's supposed to be done in two months so it's different than Forever Evil.
Cons:
  • $4.99 each issue and four issues each month. I'll have to budget a lot to get all of these.

Covers for April

The first of the covers (along with the release dates) are out for the first week

I didn't bother looking at Batman and Robin before so I didn't realize Jason was appearing there. He's in the costume Winick put together in his last appearance before the reboot. One it wasn't fond do with the red hair retcon. Not really a fan of that so I'll probably skip it. As for Starfire and Arsenal their on a cover with another person many will be excited to see. EDIT: I noticed the price tag on these. I might not get as many as I would have originally.

DC Lego figures

The video games have a much larger selection of characters than the current official toys. Just look under Batmans' bio and you'll see them.

I was curious and checked the E of bay to discover some customs. Booster Gold had a couple but only one really looked like the costume. Starfire has some based on the cartoon and only one that actually looks like the comic character. As you might have noticed Jason is the only one from the main bat family not accounted for (the bigger Robin they sell is Tim) despite the demand. The customs are pretty pricy usually around ten, twenty or higher.

Lack of Female Characters being Marketed

A interesting look at how female characters are being ignored in the more action based toy lines like Star Wars Rebels.

Save Spider-Girl

From her co-creator Tom DeFalco:

Attention all SPIDER-GIRL fans, please mark Januray 21 on your calendars. SPIDER-VERSE TEAM-UP #3 goes on sale and features an all-new SPIDER-GIRL story by Ron Frenz, Sal Buscema and me.

We want this book to sell out and go back to press so please spread the word. Let’s show MARVEL that our girl still has an audience
I know some of you aren’t very happy with certain recent developments, but—TRUST ME—this story may ease your fears and bring a smile to your face! ( And, perhaps, a tear to your eyes.)

It sounds like there may be a chance to save the character and her mythos--which might lead to another series IF this sells out. I'll be getting this in digital and physical form. I want to read more of Maydays' world. Her two series have over a hundred issues combined and aren't even listed digitally.

There should be a world where Peter Parker and Mary Jane are happy. Not to mention all the dangling plot threads.

Delving into the Psyche of Red Hood

A look into Red Hood and the Outlaws Annual #2 to see what the issue says about Jason Todd.

Antman Trailer

No big spoilers, just one *ahem* small detail.

The funniest thing about this was when my dad was talking to me about it. He asked what the deal with the "giant ant he rode."

I stared at him a moment and said, "dad, you know there's a reason for them calling him Antman, right?"

He looked confused.

"...It's because he can shrink to the size of an ant...that's what he was riding."

So I guess that detail doesn't translate well for non-comic book readers.

The Waiting Game

The worst part of your favorite characters not being the "A list" heroes--besides the occasional out of character/bad writing--is having to wait for appearances. Then when there's something like two or three appearances a month you feel so giddy...except if one or more are written badly. But really it's such a joy to see your faves in the limelight. It kind of makes me laugh to remember one debate awhile back with the JLA roster not including one of their major members since they were off the team for awhile. Those guys appear a lot more and most have their own solo. Saying that they needed MORE exposure just stuck me as funny. I can honestly say that while I do like some of the big name characters it's just that all of my favorites are lesser known heroes.

Cherry Picking Your Comics

I was looking through some trades online remembering when my sister and brother-in-law were asking me what I wanted for Christmas. They did this a few times and I always tell them the same thing. That I have all the Booster Gold trades I want and I hate the Past Imperfect trade (the Giffin/DeMatteis one.) I always get the runs I love in trades and leave out the rest as if it doesn't exist. In fact that's the case with RHATO too as I've skipped the two Tynion tpb completely.

Do you ever just block out the stuff you dislike to the point when someone mentions the run you cringe? Or feel relieved when it's retconned/ignored by other writers? Granted it's easier to do now that BG vol. 2 is in another canon but there's a lot of stuff in current Batman canon I want to ignore.

Short Review: Batman and Robin #35

I got a couple comic books as gifts awhile back for my birthday and this was one of them that I finally got around to reading.

OLD SPOILERS AHEAD

Updated Reading List

Dropped:
  • Batwoman: I did trade wait for most of the issues and wasn't fond of the ending to This Blood is Thick. The one shot tie in to Futures End made me decide not to get anymore issues. The book is being cancelled but I have a suspicion it may be rebooted.
  • Earth 2: I enjoyed it for awhile but I haven't been feeling it lately and stopped trying to catch up. I was planning trade waiting for Worlds End but it sounds like it's not worth it.
Reading:
  • Red Hood and the Outlaws: The current arc will apparently finish up before the event. I'm not sure if it will be affected by the aftermath like other bat books are supposed to be since the series now falls under the Superman family editor.
  • Gotham Academy: I'm still interested in this book and we'll get an extra issue in the form of a one shot tie in to Endgame.
  • Star Wars: I'll wait for most of the issues to come to trade but I'll be getting the first issue.
  • Scarlet Spiders and Spider-Verse Team Up #3: Finishing up on the mini about Kaine, Ben and Jessica then seeing what's up with Spider-Girl Mayday Parker.
After that everything else I'm waiting for will be two issue solo books from Convergence.
