Customizing with the TBLeague 1/12 Figures

It turns out there might be an easier way to customize 1/12 if you know how to sew.

Great Custom Figures

I've been interested in how custom figures have been crafted for awhile. There's some great work with basically just putting parts from various figures together. There's also some that sculpt new parts and even those that create entire figures. One of my favorites does commissions although she doesn't do (to my knowledge) the latter. I never bought a piece but I love looking at her work. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel ones are my favorite. She puts so much detail into her pieces. If you go to her site be warned of nudity in the Game of Thrones section.

I've tried my hand at customs every once in awhile and decided not to use sculpty due to breakage. I might try something a little more difficult down the line though. It's hard not to look at custom work and not feel a little bit inspired.

Got back into sewing

I don't do it much and I'm certainly not talented at it but it can be fun. It's relaxing...until you make a mistake. Even so I enjoy the process of creating something. Remember when I tried to make the Supernova and Goldstar costumes? I found them and their worse than I remember. I didn't use the right fabric for the colored sections (I just used what I already had) and it warped or stiffen those parts. Well I'm self taught so I had no concept of what I was doing.

I was going to make my own 12" figures since the DC lines never get around to making my favorite characters. They seem to favor the same select few and/or it cost too much. Besides sewing the biggest hinderance was finding heads that looked like they would work for the characters. Proper male heads are far harder to find than female. You'd think there would be plenty of young attractive male faces that'd work. Anyway I'm looking for materials so I'll see if I can come up with anything.

Out of curiosity what character would you like to see that hasn't had a 12" figure?

Baby Outlaws: Little Starfire

Once I read the second RHATO Annual I had to do customs of the trio. This is the one that's the furthest along and other than a little tweaking is basically finished.

Rocafort Styled Room Part 2: Getting Started on The Furniture

I haven't updated in awhile but I have been working on this project. In this entry you get to see a mistake I made in judgment and a frustrating setback. Yea!

Making Snow Bases

DCC has released this video on how to make snow covered bases with the proper texture. I haven't tried this myself but it looks simple enough.

Custom Corner: Making a Rocafort styled tv Room Part 1

I dabbled in custom work for awhile. But I thought the most challenging project I could do would be to create a room/display based on artwork from a comic. I chose the tv room in Wayne Manor that Kenneth Rocafort did in Red Hood and the Outlaws #3. There's enough details in it too keep me busy but not enough to show the room in it's entirety. For example the wall to Jasons' right is never seen.

Finished Jason Todd/Robin Case

I showed the construction of most of the case here. Time passed and I realized I never posted the finished product. So for anyone that's interested here a pic of it complete with the costume.

A Robin Case

I try to do projects every once in awhile and I haven't been in a drawing mood lately. Looking at my display for my figures I thought it was kind of blah. At first I wanted to do a time lab display but since that will take lots of time I thought maybe I should start with something simple to see how that goes first.

My Past attempts at sewing

I actually attempted to make Booster Gold related 12" figures about a year or so ago. There was a project online that I was going to enter but never got around to. Mainly because I never finished it. I was going to do three or four figures: Booster, Rip, Michelle and either Daniel or just the Supernova costume. The Booster costume didn't work out but two uniforms were shaping up. Might finish these some day
