Heroes for Crisis #7 preview

Where to start?

SPOILERS AHEAD

I haven't liked the way Barbara Gordon has been written in nearly every book I've gotten with her since New 52 but does King really think she's supposed to be stupid? Barbara told Harley seven times not to kill Booster? Why the hell did she ever think Harley would listen to her? I don't care what history they both have with the Joker Barbara won't just decide to trust someone based on shared trauma. She would either lock Harley up (the most likely option) or have some else watch Harley. She would not take one of the suspects--the one that has a history of killing--and help her track down another suspect. Nor would she be gullible enough to think HARLEY QUINN wouldn't attempt to murder Booster--AGAIN--especially after repeatedly telling her no.

What if Booster didn't have his forcefield like last time? Barbara would have been responsible for a death and she's treating it like an annoyance rather than trying to restrain Harley. This isn't someone like Huntress she's working with, this is someone that has been shown stabbing Booster with a smile on her face. Barbara claims she's used to working with Batman or Nightwing not someone like Harley but come on. That's not an excuse, everyone in the superhero community should know Harley isn't someone you team up with. Even if Harley appears more stable than she's been portrayed here it's clear that she has her own agenda.

The genius that Babs is decides to knock Ted out rather than deal with Harley or work with Ted. She's risking Boosters' life on the belief Harley will finally listen to her after ignoring her. It feels like DC really doesn't want me to like Babs because she's a complete idiot here. And when she's ignored for the eighth time she acts like it's more irksome than the fact HARLEY IS TRYING TO MURDER BOOSTER.

Why are we supposed to like Harley again? Every panel I've seen with her in this she's annoying, extremely overpowered to the point it's laughable and I honestly can't understand why we're supposed to see her as a hero. Even without his powers Booster should be able to take Harley out without breaking a sweat. Maybe he'd get hit a few times but Jurgens has shown him as being capable especially when he's underestimated.

WTF is with the exchange about Ted totally getting it because he works with Booster? TED was the one doing the risky ideas in JLI. Booster isn't a male Harley Quinn King, no matter how hard you try to push him into that box. We've seen Ted trying to fix Boosters' forcefield with Jurgens. He made a huge deal on it being something Ted struggled with. Ted kind of could make his own version of the suit Booster wore it just didn't work nearly as well. The forcefield was made by Brainy 5 with tech from the 30th century that Booster only has because of a time paradox. And no, even if Ted could get the shield working again having it hooked up to his concious is beyond stupid. Made all the worse by him telling Babs knowing she's there to get his best friend with a woman trying to kill him.

Two great minds in the DCU can't understand common sense. Harley is blood thirsty and annoying yet everyone is willing to give her compassion. Despite Booster being one of the supposed pillars King is building up he continues to get beaten up and no one but Ted seems to care.

  1. The preview for issue 7 is every reason NOT to read HEROES IN CRISIS. Character behavior at odds with existing characterization, terrible internal logic, no difference between heroes and villains.... I wish it had an "Elseworlds" sticker on it, because it sure doesn't take place in any DC Universe I've ever encountered (or would want to encounter).

  2. King doesn't seem to understand any of the characters I've seen him write. I don't think he, or a lot of current writers, research. All that matters is the story he wants to tell which means characters will be forced into the roles he wants.

This story can't be retconned or forgotten about fast enough.
