DC Solicits for October and November 2019

Some titles that for one reason or another caught my eye.

BIRDS OF PREY #1

Azzarello, the same writer that added the pointless Bruce/Babs stuff in the Killing Joke movie and had the Amazons kill the men they slept with and sell the sons is writing this. Even if that wasn't the case I'm tired of Harley Quinn.

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES: MILLENNIUM #2
written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
art by NICOLA SCOTT, JIM CHEUNG, JEFF DEKAL and RYAN SOOK
cover by RYAN SOOK
card stock variant cover by BRYAN HITCH
Get on board for a journey through the future like no other! A gallery of all-star artists join our mysterious guide as they continue their 1,000-year journey toward the 31st century, inspiring Booster Gold to time-travel, debating fighting tactics with O.M.A.C. and making their way to the front door of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The DC event of the future is here now!
ON SALE 10.02.19
$4.99 US | 2 of 2 | 48 PAGES

If Bendis didn't age up Jon I might be interested in this. But I hate Jon suddenly being turned into a teenager, so much that I'm considering dropping Lois Lane because the plot might come up. It makes no sense given the success of Super Sons or the fact Kon is back. The aging up is rarely handled well and usually ends with the kid being written out. I also hope their not retconning Booster Gold. It feels like he might be put into Legion time. Also they didn't inspire him to time travel, desperation and working in a superhero museum did. He only had their tech because of a time paradox.

RWBY #1
written by MARGUERITE BENNETT
art by MIRKA ANDOLFO
cover by SARAH STONE
card stock variant cover by JIM LEE
In a world rife with monsters known as Grimm, the prestigious Beacon Academy trains the next generation of hunters and huntresses. Tying in with the hit Rooster Teeth web series RWBY, follow the adventures of team RWBY, comprising bruiser Yang Xiao Long, elegant Weiss Schnee, stealthy Blake Belladonna and courageous leader Ruby Rose, as they protect the world from all manner of Grimm!
ON SALE 10.09.19
$3.99 US | 1 of 7 | 32 PAGES

I gave up on the show in volume 6 so this doesn't hold the appeal it once would.

FLASH FORWARD #2
written by SCOTT LOBDELL
art by BRETT BOOTH and NORM RAPMUND
cover by EVAN “DOC” SHANER
variant cover by INHYUK LEE
When the border between the Multiverse and the Dark Multiverse starts to buckle, who do you turn to? The answer: Wally West. Once the Fastest Man Alive, he’s now a man with nothing left to live for. Will Tempus Fuginaut’s chosen champion rise to the occasion and fight back the demons of the darkness, or will Wally’s own demons win the day?
ON SALE 10.16.19

Did Booster Gold ever get to be the protector of the Multiverse like he was supposed to be? I heard that Sideways also had someone else potentially had that role.

RED HOOD: OUTLAW #39
written by SCOTT LOBDELL
art and cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT
variant cover by KARL MOSTERT
“Generation Outlaw” continues! Class is in session, and Red Hood’s students still have a lot to learn. With Doomed running amok, each villain-in-training decides to use the chaos in order to stake their claim as the one to beat. But while Red Hood tries to teach them a valuable lesson about power and responsibility, Doomed’s actions could, well, literally doom them all!
ON SALE 10.23.19

It might be interesting to see Jason as a teacher (the Robin War crossover wasn't a good example for any of the Robins.) Still as good as this may be I do feel annoyed that plots had to be pushed aside for tie in stuff. Plus I want the Outlaws to reunite already.

TEEN TITANS #35
written by ADAM GLASS
art and cover by BERNARD CHANG
variant cover by LEE GARBETT
The Teen Titans’ traitor is finally revealed as all their scheming finally comes to a head! How will the team deal with the betrayal, and to what end are the traitor’s plans? Worse, will the previously secret Teen Titans team finally be exposed to the world? This house of cards is about to come crashing down…and one of the Teen Titans will pay the ultimate price!
ON SALE 10.16.19

I might drop this series but this is a plot I'm looking forward to seeing end. I also want to see their secrets get discovered.

The November Solicits with the acetate covers.

BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS #7
written by BRYAN HILL
art by DEXTER SOY
acetate cover by JONBOY MEYERS
variant cover by CHRIS BURNHAM
Unable to cope with Black Lightning and Batman’s methods, Duke Thomas finds refuge in the philosophy of Ra’s al Ghul, becoming the latest acolyte of the Demon, as Ra’s at last begins to rebuild his empire!
ON SALE 11.13.19

I'm considering getting this series in trade but this is what, the third time in a row one of Batman's kids is having a falling out with him? I know this kind of keeps happening partly due to how Batman treats those around him but you'd think Duke would know better since he's met Damian.

DETECTIVE COMICS #1015
written by PETER J. TOMASI
art by DOUG MAHNKE and JAIME MENDOZA
acetate cover by PAOLO PANTALENA
card stock variant cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT
For centuries children have been told to be careful about what they wish for, and after years of yearning for his beloved to return, Mr. Freeze finally gets it. But frozen hearts don’t melt easily, and after years in cryostasis, Nora Fries is the ultimate ice queen. Gotham and Victor Fries will never be the same again.
ON SALE 11.13.19

I like the idea of Nora being more than a comatose wife for Victor to mourn after but I'm concerned about the execution. I recall her return at the end of Cassandra Cain's series, I wasn't a fan of it.

RED HOOD: OUTLAW #40
written by SCOTT LOBDELL
art by DAVID MESSINA
acetate cover by GUILLEM MARCH
variant cover by PHILIP TAN and MARC DEERING
After their first mission in the field, all the Outlaws want is to head back to the Block for some R&R. Unfortunately, no sooner do they get home than they find themselves under assault from Shay Veritas’ clones! It’s like Night of the Living Duplicates in there, and Red Hood is nowhere to be found. Is he teaching them a dangerous (but hopefully valuable) lesson with his absence, or is he dealing with something even bigger and more terrifying?
ON SALE 11.13.19

I'm really not a fan of any of the covers for this issue. Sure I love the Outlaws but if these are the special covers I'm not going to pay extra for them if there's a cheaper option. I don't know enough about the direction of the series to say much about the summary for this issue. Is David Messina the new artist?

TEEN TITANS #36
written by ADAM GLASS
art by BERNARD CHANG
acetate cover by DAN MORA
variant cover by ALEX GARNER
Like father, like daughter! Apex Lex has given Lobo the power to control Crush, and together they’re going to take down the Teen Titans! Try as she might, Crush struggles to resist Lobo’s influence…but to her horror, she starts to enjoy the madness! And finally, after all this time, it’s time to meet...the Other!
ON SALE 11.20.19

That sounds terrifying. I do want to get the Other plot done with. I now read all the issues Glass wrote and I still don't get what their deal is beyond the vague rumors Black Mask mentions.

It looks like Supergirl will be one of the ones affected by TBWL.
