I did write something about the preview but decided to wait to see how it played out. (I haven't read RHO yet so if there's a connection I haven't mentioned it here.)
SPOILERS AHEAD
I thought the dialogue between Bruce and Jason when they first meet up was kinda bland given their issues. And awkward with the exposition. There's some tension but it doesn't always come across. But it could still kinda fit and I see it as Bendis trying to show Jason in a more sympathetic light. He's the mature one that cares about those taken that suggests working together.
It does read awkwardly when Jason calls them the bat family not just the family. Then needs confirmation for who Lois Lane is? Whether or not she's the press when it isn't that weird that Bruce would talk to her in general. Is this the red herring bit to make him seem suspicious for immediately thinking it's Lois? "The great super spy"? Who says that? Jason does deduce things pretty fast which says a lot about his deduction skills and how well he knows Bruce.
The ambush and Bruce's apology: I know Bruce is a drama queen but he misleads his kid then brings in the others to capture Jason. He apologizes for not being there for Jason but it feels less genuine because he's doing so in front of an audience. He showed no such regret for everything else that happened between them sans breaking the news about Roy. I mean it's nice to see he's talking first and saying he's sorry this time, it doesn't however excuse his actions.
Why is Red Hood a suspect?: Is it just because Damian suggested it? It almost comes across as if Damian is just suggesting it to take suspicion off of himself for being Talia's son. Why is Jason the main suspect they have? Did they just think the red hood look matches? Jason could techically pull this off with the right people but wouldn't he have an army of people to protect him? It all feels pretty flimsy to me. This is supposed to be the best of the best detectives plus Ollie and their "evidence" is pretty weak.
Damian: He already screwed up once thinking Jason betrayed him and Deathstroke told him the actual TT traitor is currently on his team. Is Damian so desperate to be right about Jason that he has to believe it's him? Damian wins for worst detective of the year. And what, is he suggesting that Jason has developed a second personality because of grief? Where's the evidence of that? And if Jason was Leviathan or petty he could just tell them what Damian is doing with his torture prison. Unlike the current clues that would be pretty damning for Damian and these great detectives would then suspect him. Even if they are right their going about this all wrong.
Green Arrow and Lois: Ask where the kidnapped people are. How does this fit into YOTV where Oracle vs. Batgirl and Lex extracted information from Waller? And really? Lois is recording this?
Plastic Man: He says a weapon looks like Batman's design...so? Batman loses a lot of his equipment over the years, if you read the Johns TT you know the batarang budget is quite big. Anyone could copy the weapons. Didn't Steve mention something about agencies being caught up with the bat tech or something like that?
Manhunter: Apparently Jason somehow doesn't know her and we got this for a joke.
Question: I like the same exchange just for the "wrong question" response but like above it's pointless.
Batman: Knows Jason is going to flee but doesn't comment on the crowbar. Which could at least be an example of Jason going over the edge or gotten a reaction from Bruce. RHO had been very good at not letting Kate or Bruce see it before now. But we get nothing despite Jason having his back to Bruce for a good part of their conversation. You know, if the clues were stronger this confrontation could have worked better. Maybe Bruce could have talked about Jason and him butting heads more. But he doesn't have any strong proof. This is the same guy that Jason knew wouldn't accept that Jason Todd was back until he checked the DNA.
I heard that this could be Dick or Roy. I doubt it would happen with Dick but I kind of like the irony of the Golden Child being Leviathan but the Black Sheep being blamed. At the very least it would give Dick/Ric something to do. Roy could be alive thanks to Talia and have this bat connection thanks to his friendship with Dick and Jason. But then the Multiverse stuff comes in. Bendis said he was waiting for Doomsday Clock to finish and Event Leviathan seems to be somewhat connected to YOTV. Maybe Roy, Dick or whoever was brought back but corrupted by TBWL?
