This makes it worse when you think about it

Only the first issue of HIC has been released at this point but I just have so many questions. How can anyone learn about Sanctuary in the first place since not even some of the big names are familiar with it?

Ollie sure didn't know despite it being around for five years in universe. I looked up what I could to try to see if it was explained and found this. It doesn't answer my question but it might make the Trinity's actions (or at least Batmans') worse.

This part in particular:

How do characters get to Sanctuary?

There have been three methods revealed for characters to become patients at Sanctuary:

1) They can check themselves in. Roy Harper is willingly going to “rehab” at Sanctuary, as he told both Oliver Queen (in Green Arrow #43) and Jason Todd (in Red Hood and the Outlaws Annual #2).

2) Patients can be recommended for a visit, like Batman did for Poison Ivy (in Batman #43). It wasn’t clear if Batman forced Ivy to go or if she willingly went, but the latter was implied. ("Ivy's arrived safely at Sanctuary," Bruce told his then-fiancĂ© Catwoman in the issue. "They'll do what they do.”)

3) Patients can be forced to go to Sanctuary, as Batman tried to do to Ace Masterson/Human Dynamo in Deathstroke #32. The character was so mentally troubled and suicidal that Batman triggered the Justice League transporter to force him to Sanctuary, where Batman said he planned to put Masterson into cryogenic stasis until a cure for his ailment could be found. (Side note: Masterson resisted, then Deathstroke killed him before he could be transported. So he’s not among the patients.)

How many of the victims died because they were forced to go to Sanctuary? Were they trapped inside with no means to escape? Did Clark or Diana ever force anyone to go?

And why didn't Bruce do the same for Jason? I know the real reason is because it didn't exist until King retconned it in but there's no good reason in-universe. Jason didn't care if he died in UTH and it was more blatant in the movie version. Why is Arkham/jail the go to option instead of seeing his traumatized adopted son get help at Sanctuary? Whether Jason would go is a moot point if Bruce is willing to force others to go or take Jason against his will to be imprisoned but not helped.

Not that I'm trying to say I want Jason in the mini series I'm trying to understand how to explain Bruce's actions.

  1. Sanctuary as a whole is just extremely poorly planned, plain and simple.

Instead of having the most sensible approach of making it a new thing set by the Trinity, King is trying to force it into continuity as it would've been there for years, with the issues you've pointed out with how OoC the Trinity ends up looking.

    1. It really is, both inside and out of the DCU. It doesn't even look like it's helped the people that go since the confessionals are supposed to be done before they leave.

There are more issues I haven't even addressed. The Trinity all look like morons who don't understand mental health, security or even why keeping records is a smart thing. King only cares about his story and if he has to jam the square peg into the round hole he'll do it even if he breaks it while doing it.
