Was King referencing the Penguin shooting?

I heard King recently said something about Jason only loving himself (which is the furthest thing from the truth) and I think I have a theory why.

Penguin is appearing in King's run and seems to have an eye patch after Jason shot him. I'm guessing this is be one of the few times King is acknowledging something that happened in another book and using the fact Jason revealed his identity. Thus King would be suggesting Jason only cares about himself because he didn't consider the fact this would put the family in a bad position. Solicits have Penguin working with Batman so maybe he's blackmailing him.

It's only a theory but if that's what this is about:

  • Jason did it because he was about to shoot Penguin at point blank range. That's not something most people can recover from so he wouldn't think he was endangering a secret. But it's comics so a major rogue isn't going to just die.
  • Jason was upset about learning that his dad loved him, risked his life to be there for him and wouldn't have left in the first place if Penguin didn't set him up. Bruce himself doesn't think well when his parents are brought up and the way he handle the situation was extremely self involved. So Bruce doesn't come out looking great either.
