Red Hood (and the) Outlaw(s) #30 Vol. 2

Could this be the meeting of Red Hood and Wingman?

SPOILERS AHEAD

Jason goes to Mexico to find the prison Hierve El Agua. He pieces things together. We see Bizarro and Artemis on another Earth. Wingman appears to ask Jason to come back to Gotham because not everyone agrees with how Batman does things. Bricks attack Wingman and save Jason. He gets a dog that leads him to the proof he needs. Then he finds Bunker but Solitary stops him before he can free him.

Overall: It's not much but I love the little detail of him humming a tune while fixing the truck. It reminds me of Jason telling Roy in RHA that he loves cars and the scattered history we have of Jason and Willis with cars.

Before I read this issue I saw someone comment that Jason was finally becoming "emo" for his reply to the woman saying no one with a soul goes to the prison. According to a past interview with Lobdell Jason seriously doubts he even has a soul thanks to his rebirth. Which was last hinted at when Jason hurt Akila with the All Blades but had to quickly put them away. (The All Blades are powered by someone's soul.) I'm curious when or if that will come into play but I don't believe for a second Jasons' comment means he's just trying to be badass. Or being "emo."

I was waiting for Jason to piece clues together to show what a detective he is. He's able to tell by the blood spatters that a long sword was used. Which Artemis did use in the flashback. He's able to deduce a lot in a short amount of time. He already has a feeling he's not going to like the answer which is bad news for his friendship, etc. with Artemis. This makes their romance, which Lobdell sold me on, look less likely. :( It's weird but I haven't seen many people talking about how it all connects before. This hints at bad things coming.

Jason is also able to tell but not give away the fact he knows he's being spied on. Instead he decides to wait knowing the other party will appear on his own.

At a glance he can tell what damage was done by an axe, Mistress. Then piece together Artemis being at the prison. While Jason thinks he might just be projecting because he misses his friends I don't think this is really a leap in logic for him to make given previous issues.

While Jason doesn't seem to recall Creeper yelling at Artemis for being the only one to walk away from Hierve El Agua alive it could still be in the back of his mind. He's worked with her long enough that he's seen her fight and knows the type of damage Mistress can do. Before Jason was separated from her Artemis also confessed that she did something bad. He hasn't really figured out how it all connects quite yet but he can still link it to her even if he rejects it right now.

Wingman appears claiming others want Jason back in Gotham. I'm once again disappointed that Jason is taken down so easily. Couldn't the confrontation happen during their fight? But I gotta admit I'm amused by the brick part. Given the timing with Artemis and Bizarro having a scene around the Wingman bit I can only guess he's another universe's Jason. He does seem to start to say Jason won't believe him before he's attacked. It would make the "Solitary Confinement" part more ironic.

I thought the bricks were originally a trick done by Willis until Bunker was revealed. I have a bad feeling Willis is going to talk Jason out of freeing him.

Jason befriending a dog after thinking of his own is cute. Is he keeping her? Was she a test subject? I might write more about this at some point but it's fitting. Jason finally (unknowingly) confronts his dad and like in the past has a dog to comfort him.

I do wonder if Solitary is ready to reveal who he is to Jason. We know from his interaction with Gunn that he can have a normal voice if wants. His son doesn't recognize him, does he want to reveal his ID?

This issue had a great atomsphere although the quick cameo by his teammates in the alternate reality and the flashback of Roy talking about finding the drugs feels out of place. I'm looking forward to they'd next issue. I will be talking more about Willis elsewhere but what he's doing is curious.

Questions Asked?: The Mondays were all clones? I thought they had tech.

Solitary controls most if not all of the country that isn't Gotham or Metropolis. Curious that he avoids those cities right? Though it makes sense given his history.

Why did Wingman call Jason "a Prince"? Does he know that nickname because he's another Jason? This could explain the Damian fight.

When did the Roy flashback scene with him telling Jason he's finding them on purpose take place?

Jason met Bunker? Wasn't that Roy and Kori? I think Jason and Tim were captured for most of the crossover.

Say What?: Three days after #26 Jason learned Roy died.

While it wasn't seen in the flashback Artemis apparently had her axe.

Did You Notice?: Jason looks almost demonic with the shadows over his face when talking to the gasoline lady.

The art has Roy looking bigger, maybe to reflect the style from the annual.

The summary of Red Hood "He tired of Redemption. Meh."

Looks like despite the prison scarying people it still attracted some spray painting artists. With ladders to write the font too. Besides the bad state of the prison there are also heads on pikes by the entrance and bodies hanging like a clothes line above.

Bizarro has a beard? Okay. Artemis got a hair cut? Why? :(
