Batman disses the JLI

I haven't gotten a chance to talk about this yet but yeah I heard about it.

Update about the subscriptions

According to the people I talked to this is a matter for the person who ordered these books for me as a gift. So I personally can't do anything except tell my family member something is wrong with the subscriptions. I did but whether anything gets done about it is up in the air at the moment. I get the feeling that if it hasn't been charged that's the end of that.

Readers don't like character development?

Sometimes I really need a break from the fandom. I love character development and it always baffles me to hear fans berate it. I mean I like Jason Todd and UTH but I don't want every other story dealing with it or writers going really off the rails like Battle for the Cowl. I've seen this with Booster too! Fans that say he's not being written right because he's not like he was in the old JLI. Or writers being insulted for not doing it like "our version." I know change is scary but when it's in a positive direction what's the problem?

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 14

Day 14 - Current (or most recent) comic-themed wallpaper.

Two of the ones I use a lot are the Supernova/Booster Gold reveal on the 52 cover and the Brightest Day cover spread with all the returned characters on their thrones. Just because of the epicness to them and the fact I adored those characters (Booster and Max.)I also had a Spider-man family pic with Spider-Girl (Mayday Parker) I liked to reuse. I think for Fathers' Day last year I forgot to take off the cover for one of the Starro issues which had a Starro controled Rip trying to kill Booster. Awkward.

Drop off point

I STILL haven't received my subscriptions so as I promised myself I'm going to have to drop some titles. Since I can't make it to the stores for the second and fourth weeks of the month those are the ones that have to go. I already dropped Justice League Dark because of the new writer but I'm tired of getting ordering books online because their never in the store. I know stores put comics on hold but only for a week. Which means I have to drop: Demon Knights, Teen Titans and Superboy. This makes me said because each of these books had something special.

Which means it's just JLI and RHATO for now. But this should help me save up a little for May which looks like a big month. My current but not final list:

JLI
Red Hood and the Outlaws
Teen Titans Annual (which is said to have A LOT of missing character)
Batman and Robin (Damian Count of Owls tie in)
Dark Knight (Tim Drake Court of Owls tie in by Winick)
Ravangers (I'm leaning towards not getting it but you never know)
Worlds' Finest (I'm curious how this will work and I'm fond of PJ and the old Huntress.)'

Granted some of these do fall on the 2nd and 4th weeks but I'll either wait or get them online. I just don't want that to become a monthly thing. I think I'll get Batman and Robin 10 as well for the all boy Robin reunion, which will be the first time all of them are together. I have a feeling it will sell out.

Black Lantern Ted Kord

Finally got this at a decent price. Not a bad figure but how does it hold up against Mattels' Ted Kord?

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 13

Day 13 - A book you’ve read more than five times.

This would apply to most of my favorite series. I reread my favorite issues a lot after their released. I read vol. 2 of Booster Gold many times. The list goes on. It's one of the reasons I buy some trades of series I already have in floppies. I just keep reading them.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 12

Day 12 - A comic everyone should read.

Scott Pilgram. Well I don't think a lot of people will get it unless they played video games but this was a blast to read. Very witty and heartfelt. It deals with two characters who want to escape their pasts and through numerous mistakes have to find a way to deal with it to accept themselves. It can be completely off the wall at points, a little meta, but the insanity of it helps make it fun. Ex: with all the random fights (the evil exs being bosses) no law enforcement EVER shows up. Well there was something kinda close but that's played off for laughs. What impressed me was a couple of throw away lines or scenes you first read one way come together explaining events in a way that makes sense.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 11

Day 11 - Favourite comic book cartoon series.

Batman the Animated Series/Batman Beyond. They set bar really high with those. They were moody, funny, tragic, action packed and yet still okay for all ages. JLU to a lesser extent.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 10

Day 10 - A Creative team that disappointed you

Giffin and DeMatteis on Booster Gold. I didn't put all my reviews for their run on this site but they seriously pissed me off for most of it. Yes I will admit I liked a couple of issues and there were some good moments. But for me the bad outweighed the good. Their characterizations for most of the women were downright insulting to the point I'm shocked no one else called them on it. One issue going as far as making an ongoing prison rape joke at Boosters' expense (would anyone laugh if it happened?) The cast had a LOT of out of character moments. It pandered too much to their past and once again retended the same tired "Booster is in denial over his death/mourns Ted" scene that were so overblown it was embarrassing. Usually I'm not that hard on creative teams. Even art I can't stand I can't find it in myself to put down. But that's how this run makes me feel. The only thing I disliked more was ICBINTJL and FKATJL. Before that I liked this team.

DC Characters Pages on website leave out a couple names

In the Batgirl section only Barbara Gordon is listed even though the second picture is Cassandra Cain when she wore the orignal Batgirl suit.

In the Robin section Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne are the only Robins accounted for.

Of course the Teen Titan section lists people like Beast Boy as Titans so maybe their not as together as they claim to be.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 9

Day 09 - Most touching comic book/comic book scene.

There's a lot of Booster stuff but I'm not going to list anything with Ted because that has been done to death (no pun intended.) I'm going to cheat a little and list one for the runner up spot. When Rip Hunter reveals to the audience he's Boosters' son proving that Booster is destined for greatness. (Although that's tied with a scene in the same issue where Batman gives Booster his support. It's my list I can cheat if I wanna.)

But for the number one spot? The one that got the biggest emotional reaction from me: Jason Todds' most cherished memory (plus the knowledge that he willingly gave it away.)It's a simple scene but it's rather powerful and if you know the character you know why it's important. Because Bruce showed he cared about Jason and actively chose him over the mission even if it was something non-threatening as being sick. Sadly it's one of the only times (if not the only time) Bruce choses him.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 8

Day 08 - Best series being published right now.

I'm not reading enough titles to make that kind of statement. My favorite series are JLI and RHATO. I've seen good things written about Batwoman (which I plan on getting in trade)and many other books.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 7

Day 07 - Favourite comic couple.

Is there anyone who's still together? Despite giving up on Marvel I'll always love Mary-Jane and Peter Parker. I will never buy the idea that Gwen Stacy was the love of his life. Yes I read back issues. Mary Jane loved Peter for who he was inside and out of the costume. They are best friends and are usually very supportive of each other. In MC2 universe they have a loving family.

In general I like already estabished couples like Lois/Clark etc.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 6

Day 06 - Most annoying character.

Comic characters don't usually annoy me. Does Buffy count? She seriously annoyed me so much on tv because she kept complaining about the same things. Wanting to be normal and how hard things were. Meanwhile her former rival Cordelia not only overcame her own problems but became more selfless. Actually a lot of characters went through horrible things but it always seems to come back to how Buffy was all alone when she was ignoring her friends' help. Those problems were forgotten then popped right back throughout the seasons. I guess you could say that was more of a writer thing but various writers kept doing it until it became a character trait.

Solicits for #10

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 5

Day 05 - Comic character you feel you are most like (or wish you were).
I actually had to think about this because I never gave it much thought before. I don't think I'm like anyone. Maybe little traits but not enough to say I'm so-and-so. I honestly don't know. Who I wish I was like? I wish I had Starfires' confidence, Stephanie Browns' hopefulness, and a Green Lanterns' willpower.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 4

Day 04 - Your guilty pleasure comic or character.

I don't feel guilty for liking the comics or characters I like. I know many people hate the ones I enjoy. I guess the closest would be Max Lord. I liked him but I grew to love him more as Boosters' arch enemy in Justice League Generation Lost. Many would disagree with me but my unpopular opinion is that I'd prefer keeping him like that rather than bringing Ted back. I can see more being done with Max as a bad guy.

And no I don't hate Ted.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 3

Day 03 - A comic that is underrated.

So many, the Cass and Steph Batgirl series, Booster Golds' two series, and many more. I'm going to split this between an old series and a new one.

Spider-Girl (with Mayday Parker) was so good and multi-layered. It had so many interesting characters and ongoing storylines. It was a legacy comic done right that was always upbeat. Currently I think Red Hood and the Outlaws is greatly underrated. Many judge it based on the first issue when there's so much more to it than it's given credit for. It's a story about these hurt characters that help each other grow. It explores more genres than the usual Gotham crowd does.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 2

Day 02 - Your favourite character.

Either Booster Gold or Jason Todd but I'm going to say Booster because they seriously dropped the ball with Jason between UTH and the relaunch. I love Booster for a lot of reasons. He's deeper than people give him credit for and cares so much. He's the underdog that has what it takes to be one of the top guns but for one reason or another never quite makes it. Booster comes from a poor upbringing with a dad that abandons the family and some pretty bad things happened. But that doesn't hold him back, it doesn't stop him from being a upbeat character.

There's too many reasons for me to list why I love Booster Gold. I just wish he was in more titles.

Booster and Guy

I'm really fond of their interactions. I might be reading into this too much (I usually do) but I found this bit really endearing. After a fight with Lobo they seperate the two. Booster does his best to calm Guy down. Apparently he does this for hours as Guy ends up falling asleep in the forcefield.

30 Day Comic Book Challenge: Day 1

Day 01 - Your first comic book.

Honestly I can't remember. My sister used to collect comics which got me into it after she stopped. A lot of it was older stuff. I started off by reading Spider-Man and X-Men. But one of the comics I first got as a present was part of the Scarlet Spider mini that someone told my sister was a must have. I do like Ben Reilly even if the plot makes no sense.

Dustin Nguyens' Group

I'd love to see more of this group.

The Newest Robin

I like this uniform. I think this and Jason Todds' new Robin designs are my favorites of the Robin costumes. Their the best armored (Helenas' actually reminds me a little of Jasons') and speak to who the characters are. I always thought Dicks' uniform was far too dated and couldn't see other kids wearing it. Carrie Kelly had it and Steph basically had a female version of Tim Drakes' Robin suit. Tims' red design was okay but now I'm thinking the black undies were too much. Damians' is starting to feel too simple but the hood makes it work. I don't think the offically update Dicks' just gave a vague look at what it could look like.
