DC Icons: Super Sons

I got these awhile ago but never got around to reviewing them. I'm dropping the rating system but I still want to talk about these figures a bit.

Comic Accurate Likeness: I don't know if this is based on any particular artist style but it mostly keeps the uniform designs. Mostly. Superboy is pretty spot on while Robin has the collar from his red tunic missing. It's supposed to be peaking through the neck area of the cape. I was never fond of that design element though and it would only hinder this figure. Nevertheless it doesn't exactly copy the character sheet.

Sculpting: I wish Jon had a more expressive face. He has a more subdued smile that comes across as neutral unless you're really studying the head. In comparison to the spot on Damian smirk it doesn't make Jon's personality shine through like Damian's does. There's plenty of detail on both figures with the folds of their uniforms, the tears in Jon's pants and the various seams. Of all the DC Icons I've seen they look the best. They mostly have good proportions although I keep thinking Jon's legs look a little too long for his body.

Paint Job: The paint job is excellent on both figures. Maybe Jon's symbol could be clearer on his cape but it's not messy in the least. No real complaints here.

Articulation: This is the best articulation a Damian figure has ever had. The range of motion is only hindered by the "skirt" of his tunic and the cape. Jon has more free movement because of his design. His cape doesn't drape over his shoulders making him able to do poses Damian might have trouble with. Like putting their hands behind the head. Jon's legs are loose at the hips but it seems to be based on how it's designed with the joint rather than a problem.

Accessories: Since I don't count the extra hands as accessories there's only two and even then one only counts in the strictest sense. Damian has a bow staff which is tiny and can only be held with two of the pairs of hands. I don't know how that became his go to weapon as the staff was always Tim Drake's signature weapon of choice. Jon gets an unusual flight stand. Which can only be used with one foot for the peg as only one foot has a hole. It's okay but doesn't have much range.

I'm glad they have something but there are other accessories I'd rather see. Damian with a sword. Or their dogs Krypto and Titus. This feels a little underwhelming for the price.

Misc: Both figures have multiple hands that can be switched out. Which admittedly was a lot of fun although I would have been fine with them just have hands that could grip things. Damian has Birdarangs sculpted in, has a flat pair, slightly open hands, fists and grip hands. Jon has fists, flat hands for flight, gripped and slightly open hands. I think the slightly open hands weren't needed for either figure. Personally I would have preferred an unmasked head for Damian and a glasses wearing Jon head.

Comparison to other figures: This is the first Jon figure so this is mostly about Damian. This is without a doubt the best Damian Wayne figure. Unlike the Mattel ones (not shown) he actually looks like a kid and not an overly muscled He-Man stand in. The sculpt is solid with a lot of personality, plenty of articulation and extra hands. The only big problem, depending on what set of figures you display with them (DCD, Mattel, Mezco, etc.), is the scale could be seriously off. The DC Icons figures may of gotten a bit bigger since they first started but these are tiny with most DC figures.

Jon fairs a little better since he's a bit taller but the proportions of the heads also vary making them the small headed ones in comparison to most figures. I do think this set was seriously overpriced and will now be even more expensive if you try to track down a set. That said I don't have buyers remorse even if Damian looks REALLY out of place with a lot of newer/non-Icons figures.
