Preview: Event Leviathan #3

This group of detectives is a mess.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Let me see if I got this clear:
  • They decided to meet at a "neutral" place because they don't really trust each other. The place in question belongs to Superman who Lois is married to and he's also a suspect Plastic Man brings up. How is that a neutral place? If none of them fully trust anyone including Lois and Superman then the odds would be in their (Lois/Clark) favor.
  • It wasn't just Jason who wasn't aware of who Manhunter was but also Ollie? Jason not knowing was already a bit off but Ollie not knowing? Why the hell did he (and maybe others on this team) agree to team up with someone he didn't know? Sure Batman vouched for her but that is worthless in this story. Ollie shrugs that off because Batman is also a suspect. Shouldn't this conversation have happened before they all confronted Jason?
  • Ollie questions why Damian thinks Jason is Leviathan. Again Ollie only questions something long after the confrontation. Yes Batman says they went over this but the writing is extremely awkward here. This scene would only work if Ollie was having doubts but it reads like it just occurred to him that they need evidence--which isn't given. Hell the fact Roy trusted Jason should be the reason Ollie feels uneasy about this.
  • Wait, wait, wait. You mean to tell me that the whole reason they went after Jason was because Damian suggested it? Really? This team of detectives decided to listen to the kid of the former Leviathan leader? Did none of them have any other leads and just went with the first vague suspect someone came up with? Didn't Damian ask Bruce to help him see if Jason was guilty not take him in?
  • Damian isn't written well as he manages to be a combination of Tim and parody of himself when he tries to threaten Ollie. Didn't he work with Ollie in No Justice? Being hostile is not a great idea in a room full of paranoid people.
  • Why does Batman call him Jason Todd like he doesn't know him? If Bruce is trying to be impersonal why not call him Red Hood? This reads like Bendis doesn't trust the audience to remember who their talking about. Out of seemingly no where Bruce tells Damian that he didn't let Jason off the hook. Uh, I don't think Damian implied that in the previous panel where he was threatening Ollie. But I guess that Bruce wasn't involved in the fight? Or he knew Jason would get away and put a tracker on him?
  • Is Damian being sarcastic about Jason's skill? I honestly can't tell after the bit about him not being part of the fan club. Hopefully we'll get a scene showing how Jason escaped. While I think Jason is a far better fighter than he gets credit for we need to see why. Bruce thinks Jason defeated them all fair and square while Manhunter doesn't think so. Did he outsmart them?

    1. Thanks! So she has a retconned origin? That makes sense for Jason but not for why Ollie questions it after they teamed up.
