The mess that is Heroes in Crisis

I don't want to get into all the problems with this one because there's a lot.

SPOILERS AHEAD

It's disheartening what is done with Wally West, Booster Gold and others. More so since there's never any real therapy on display much less people that understand how it works and Sanctuary never apparently helps anyone. If I address what's done with Wally or Booster I might go on for awhile so for now I'm going to focus on the preview and a few other things.

The opening confessionals just sound like the characters are choosing issues that they really don't need to travel to Sanctuary for or in Firestorms' case it just sounds like he's high. Take Guy Gardner for example, everyone already knows he's upset with Hal Jordon being considered the #1 Green Lantern. He has FAR more pressing issues like being abused as a child by his father. Or (depending on if it's still canon) the literal brain damage he suffered.

With the possible exception of Kole it seems like most of these problems can be discussed without going out to Kansas to vent to the A.I. before the records are destroyed. I'm still not sure how that would actually help from a therapy stand point. Speaking of Kole is her panel implying she's alive? That she was also killed at Sanctuary? If she spoke before she died in original canon wouldn't that have happened before Sanctuary was made?

Tim Drake apparently is a direct mouthpiece for DC as he suddenly has no idea what his personality is or where he fits in. And he breaks down the other Robins into the most overly simplistic roles when he should have a better idea of who they are. The most hilarious one is that he calls Damian Wayne--the Robin he's constantly at odds with-- "the cute, mean one." In what universe would Tim ever say that about Damian? I mean bad characterizations are par the course for King but this is just bizarre.

Poison Ivy was next to Wally last issue, now she's far away and doesn't seem to care that he's trying to kill himself.

There have been many discussions of how Wallys' accidental killings and the cover up can be retconned. Even if they are we still have the image of Wally West trying to snap his own neck. DC still made Wally West suicidal and attempted to hammer in humor. Because for some asinine reason the random group of leads decided to save Wally by trying to kill him with the Bug and almost kill themselves in the process. I don't think any other scene in the whole series can so perfectly capture everything that's wrong with it more than this tone deaf and nonsensical scene.

Not featured in the preview is also a bit with Harley--who previously went all out trying to murder Booster--adding insult to injury by kneeing Wally in the groin. It's almost like DC is making a meta comment about not wanting Wally to have kids in the first place.

The other three Robins also get confessionals which I haven't read at this point because I'm already mad enough. But I bring this up to highlight another example of how poorly planned out this series is. Especially with books that have been tied in to it. There are many other examples of bad continuity within HIC and this is yet another one. Jason Todd the Red Hood is seen in a panel in his new costume. Before Roy Harper left for Sanctuary he told Jason that he was going to a "rehab for capes" and asked Jason to come with him. Jason decided to work a mission instead. When Bruce informs him that Roy died there Jason brings up the "rehab for capes" heavily implying he never heard of it before Roy mentioned it. The street brawler costume he's wearing was put on after Roy left.

Jason was solely focused on the mission Roy gave him prior to leaving and meets Bruce an issue after he first dons it. So if Jason went to Sanctuary before the killings in this costume Bruce would have known and he'd probably be a suspect or would have died. If he went after it would be during the investigation, which Bruce didn't want him to be part of and Jason stayed away to ensure the killer would be found without his interference. And I'm not sure why he would want to break into the crime scene where his best friend was killed just vent. Especially since he says he will never get his head straighten because of stuff like this (what happened to Roy.) This also implies that he never got therapy and given his past with Harley Quinn he probably had a good reason not to.

Can we just make this an Elseworlds already? Or ignore it entirely?
