Flash #47

The next part in Flash War.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Some time between the Annual and this issue Iris learned the truth about Wally (red headed version.) Which feels like I missed a lot. While not nearly as jarring as the method of taking several plots from a mini series to insert into other titles (A.K.A. the Swiss cheese mini method) it is a little off putting. If someone is trade reading or doing what I am (only reading the event issues) it feels like some pages are missing. When I typed in Flash War on digital this was the only other available issue.

Anyway the problems between Wally and Barry have gotten worse. They argue over whether or not Iris should be brought in on charges. Wally does have a point about the future law enforcement looking like the Rogues which I think was done intentionally by Zoom to get this reaction. Since both Barry and Iris are against running away it seems to be implying Wally is again in the wrong but this made me curious about Barry. Was he trying to cover up Iris' murder? He never attempted to discuss it with Wally. Maybe he didn't know the procedure in the future? And if Identity Crisis is still canon (which I don't want because Sue deserves better) Barry DID previously agree to cover up misdeeds.

They agree to go help Wally when his memories start to affect him again. Only Wally doesn't end up with them in the future. He gets taken to the future Flash museum where Zoom shows him the missing speedesters--including his children. This is why Wally and Barry are at odds with each other.

This is being compared with Flashpoint where Barry's actions caused time to change. From what's shown so far Wally has a less selfish reason for wanting to change the past than Barry did. It's not just his children's lives on the line. Bart, Max and Jesse are lost in the speed force like he was. Still both Wally and Barry are emotionally motivated when the "change the timeline" option comes up. I don't know how well versed Wally is in time travel. I do know Barry has done it a lot and in Flashpoint's case Booster told him what to do to prevent Flashpoint from becoming permanent in his tie in. So I don't think Barry is supposed to be an expert.

Whether or not Wally can trust Zoom I can't say for sure. Probably not. What's going to be the outcome for this? Well other than it seeming like Barry will be in the right will Wally be able to save the other speedesters? This could be a mislead as the writer has said Zoom has changed since readers saw him last. But if Wally brings back everyone the timeline would shift again. We saw Bart back as Flash in Teen Titans when a future Tim Drake tried to get to Jon. There it was implied that Clark hasn't "met" Conner although Beast Boy though Cassie looked familiar. This might not be the event to bring them back but their return has been foreshadowed.

Sadly the Annual had Barry encouraging Wally to move forward with his life. That seems to be the vibe which I'm hoping doesn't spell out the ending. There will probably be consequences if the characters are brought back too. I'm curious so I'll be seeing this through.
