DC Nation makes me dread HIC more

I'm still reading through the issue but there's files on the characters that really make me furious.

First the estrangement Bruce has from "his only son." Seriously DC what's the problem with acknowledging adopted kids? Afraid it makes some of his abusive behavior look worse? Even Clark is listed as having an "attachment disorder" attributed to his adoption. Diana is apparently having a difficult time coming to terms with the fact she'll lose her human companions due to her status as a demigod. Which was something Donna Troy just had a plotline about. You'd think they'd form a bond or something.

Then Booster has a file and we get further proof that no one bothers with research anymore.

"Psychotherapy Assessment: Michael suffers from generalized anxiety, the "poser" syndrome, mainly because he is...just that. He has little respect for the law or the rights of others and believes that he is entitled to act because the end justifies the means. Yet he still has compassion for others and seeks to redeem himself, primarily through short cuts that often fail. Michael needs to work on his morality, respecting the rights of others and accepting his limitations. Like most narcissists, he operates on double standards and is truly afraid of genuine intimacy.

Notes: Axis I ICD F412 Sociopathic and narcissistic traits."

Where to start first. The starting line and respect for the law? Okay, maybe. The Action Comics issues Jurgens last wrote shows he respects the law Rip Hunter set up and only breaks it due to his compassion for Clark. But he accepted that he would have to bear the burden of his decision. He didn't make the choice recklessly and even did so without anyone besides Skeets knowing the truth.

Booster not having respect for others? Is this supposed to mean because he time travelled for that ridiculous "The Gift" story? (Which is more absurd now since he should have known they wouldn't get married. But I guess Bane/Skeets made him think that?) Booster didn't just decide to change everyone's lives on a whim. Previously he only acted because he was friends with Ted and had trouble accepting his death. Every other time he's been tempted it's because he felt compassion for others or his instincts as a hero compelled him to help others. And most of those where random people he didn't know but wanted to help but couldn't due to the mechanics of time travel.

He hasn't taken "short cuts" in years and that was more about the career aspect of what he did. Being a Time Master was never about short cuts he even called it cheating under Johns if he accessed historical records to make himself look better. Booster allowed himself to look like a fool to save lives.

"Genuine intimacy"? Are they talking about his love life? It happened but it was mostly off panel. (Please don't hook him up with HQ.) Otherwise he did have friends and shared a great deal of his life with Ted. Are they suggesting he has sociopathic traits because he's supposedly knows what's best for others and doesn't respect the law?

Is Booster being honest in therapy sessions or just playing a part to cover his Time Masters job? Or did DC forget it to jam him into the role they wanted?

Other highlights of the article:

  • Harley will apparently fight the trio all at once and do better than we'd think. That sounds horrible.
  • Secrets are going to be exposed about the superhero community. Because that went so well with Identity Crisis.
  • Things get worse when their already pretty bad. We can expect heart break.
  • For why Kyle will live it lists his ring even though it makes no sense for him to wear it in rehab.
  • Mentions Booster making a career of sidestepping certain doom. That's not what happened at all. Booster took a hit from Doomsday because he was trying to prevent Supermans' death. Also mentions Dr. Manhattan saying there's only room for one person to play God at a time when Booster never tried that! Seriously their making it look like he's some kind of control freak.
  • Roy is called the least powerful of the list of five possible victims. Which include Tim Drake and Harley.

  1. This issues managed to make me angry with just a few lines. Not looking forward to HiC. Roy being the weakest of the bunch. What a joke. The Bat family split culminates in the #75 climax, which probably paves the way for BatCat fixit at #100. I don't want what's going on in RHATO to be collateral damage because King wants to tell a story. At this point I only hope RHATO stays away from whatever the hell is going on office-wide. Good God.

    1. Me too. The more I read the more upset I got. I don't think I even touched on every point that annoyed me.

Yeah, WTH is up with that? Technically speaking everyone except Cyborg is a non-powered person without the tech or ring. Roy is also a genius inventor that can use anything as a weapon.

I don't want King writing Jason or anymore of the bat family. Whether Selina mends her relationship with Bruce or not it doesn't mean marriage. Didio has said no one in the bat family should marry.

And it doesn't excuse what Bruce did. He should go on a mission to redeem himself in RHATO if they really want to reunite everyone. Ditto Jason is better off without them and away from other bat writers.

    1. I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be writing a lot of entries on this event in the future.
