DC cancelling lowest selling comics after #8?

I heard this and it makes me nervous. I always hate looking at sales because it has me worried about the title(s) I like. I mean just look at what happened to Booster Gold. Part of the problem is the fact that I prefer underdogs. I mean I used to follow Spider-Man and the X-Men who are pretty popular but their characters are underdogs. The ones I like in DC are mostly a combination of that and lesser known heroes. I can't get into big name like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman on their own. I prefer Booster Gold and JLI. I like the Bat kids more than Batman. Really I started on board the New 52 because of two titles, added some lesser favorites of mine and tried out a few new titles. I'm not sure if I'd stick around if they didn't have my favorite books.

  1. Eek! News of cancellations always depresses me. Even when I'm not reading those particular books. More so of course, when I AM reading those particular books!

  2. True, even if I'm not reading those books I feel bad for the creative teams and the fans. It sucks when something you love ends. :(

  3. Say it isn't so, Erin. I've not heard this confirmed anywhere - do you have a link to a source?

  4. I don't think it's officially confirmed but I read the speculation at the new link above.I always get worried when my fave titles might be in trouble so this might have sounded like a overreaction on my part. Getting into talks with fellow comic book fans usually does that to me. lol. But all it says is:

"- DC will probably be ending some of the lower-selling New 52 titles around issue #8, and those will most likely be replaced by other new titles."

  5. Ah, right, I see. I never look at sales figures as, like you, I tend to avoid most of the big books - I don't buy any Batman or Superman - so I'm in the same boat. Give it a few months and some of my titles may be getting cancelled, too.

Still, maybe they'll be replaced with something better? Glass half full and all that!

  6. Well some of my reads, like JLI, are books I really enjoy that are a huge reason for getting into the new 52. I'm not sure if I would continue some of my titles if I didn't have them. And books like Demons Knights are good but I sadly can't see a strong following for swords and magic.

  7. I'll be honest, books like Demon Knights are one of the main things I like about the New 52 - DC putting out a sword and sorcery book in the 21st century! While a lot of the line is made up of safe superheroes, they've taken a few chances and I applaud that.

Unless the entire line turns into Batman and Superman, I think there's always going to be something for me... even if they only last eight issues.

  8. Definitely, this is the first time I've been able to try out different genres. While I'm not keeping all the books I tried on my pull I still liked being able to experience them. DC had rather limited ideas into terms of heroes vs. villains with very little grey area, something that changed in the new 52. A HUGE improvement.

As long as I have books I love I'll continue getting them but Marvel lost me after too many of the bad choices so I'm hoping DC fares better.
