Short Review: Doomed #1

The all new book that deals with a little of the aftermath of the Superman Doomed arc.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Most of this issue is getting to know the lead, Reiser. He's a new intern at S.T.A.R. labs trying to look after his estranged and forgetful aunt. His roommates and him are also trying to find a new roommate before they get evicted. Despite often being stuck in situations that would normally be downers Reiser remains optimistic. He comes off as a good person trying his best to do what's right making him a very likable character.

I was hoping for more of his roommate Roman after the Sneak Peek but he's only around for a few panels. We also find out Clark Kent happens to live in their building making a nice connection to the series this was spun from. Reiser gets affected by the Doomsday strain when he's cleaning up a section in S.T.A.R. Labs that's contaminated when he can't breathe. Without thinking he opens the hazmat suit exposing himself. When a girl he made a connection with earlier invites him up to the building she's squatting in he gets a little too excited activating his powers. Luckily no one gets harmed (yet?) as he burns through the penthouse model until he's in the subway station.

I'm curious to see where this goes and liked what I read so I'm sticking around for awhile.

Did You Notice?: The poster for Black Canarys' band. I like the little touches that make it feel like a shared world.

  1. It didn't " wow"ed me but it was a pleasant read. The lead is great, supporting cast endearing and the premise is interesting. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

    Did you noticed Lobdell's cameo?

  2. It wasn't a "wow" but I enjoyed it. I do like Reiser, his aunt, his roommate, etc. as well as the idea. Since this was a get to know the cast issue I think things will pick up now. Not that I minded an issue dealing with civilian life.

Yep, he was big in the 90s. ;)
