What I'd like to come from the Deathstroke story

Disregarding the disheartening rumors for a moment I'd like to examine possible positive outcomes from the story. At least the one I think it could have if handled properly.

If this arc has far reaching fallout that doesn't mean it all has to be bad. Even if rumors are true it could still serves as a good building block for most of the bat family. The story can end three ways:
  • Inconclusive.
  • Bruce is the Father.
  • Bruce isn't the father.
Every choice except the last kind of make the story pointless. Unless it's the idea that scares Damian, Bruce and the others enough to change. I'm thinking DC is going to use the third option but it's going to be a fake out.

So what good can come out of such a plot?

Breaking the "Blood son equals true son" mind frame. While I'm dubious on this sticking from a company stand point since Damian is marketed as the son of Batman this is a story that desperately needs to be told in universe. It messes with Damians' thought process and self worth. It goes back into what being Robin actually means, being Batman's family whether or not you're related by blood.

If Damian can realize this and stop dismissing Tim and Jason then that would at least be a win for this story.

  1. I've been trying to write a rebuttal of the way Damian treats Jason and Tim. To say the least it's hard to explain, Damian treatment of them is bad but he's been trying to change his ways especially after Tim died. Jason and him were spending more time on patrol togather. Damian bring up tim as a reason not to leave dick side when he went to look for his kidnap girlfriend.

There's the little things that no one will notice about damian that tells the way he feel about his brothers. in robin war he was freaking out cause he couldn't see tim or Jason, duke said something and he snap on duke. look at bat burger Damian got a red hood toy he said he didn't want Jason took the toy and Damian attack him. i joke at first that if it was a red robin toy and Jason took it Damian would have really attack but since reading the deathstroke story arc it's not even a joke anymore. Damian has been going in Tim room and taking keepsakes of Tim because he misses him.
Damian using blood son is more of a coping mechanism now than just a diss he knows,he's just as important as the other boys now.

  2. The problem is partly with writers not wanting to get rid of the snarky Damian which often leads to backtracking in character development. Dick is the favorite and everyone else is ignored. What issues are those?

The only time in Robin War I recall seeing real concern from Damian was in the WAR issue. Although he seemed to be under the impression Jason was going to kill Tim. I didn't like most of that arc. That was a weird scene for me for a lot of reasons. One of which is Damian previously being a vegetarian but I saw it as him only wanting it because Jason was going to take it.

What the video? That can depend greatly on the writer.

    2. I have to look into the issue but if this is around the time Jason gave Dick dating advise? That portrayal felt kinda off to me given the strain in their relationship. Can't speak about the other stuff.

Isn't Priest writing this not King? He mistakenly said Jason in an interview but revealed it was Tim in the comic.
