The Difference An Artist Can Make

I hated the new Red Hood design when I saw the covers for the new Red Hood/Arsenal series. Then the variant for issue one came out and it made a different impression on me.

I'm getting the first issue of We Are Robin, I was considering getting the first arc but for some reason the price jumped up a dollar starting #2. I had to wait on Kanan thanks to the cost of Convergence so I'm trade waiting that and likely Lando. I'm still waiting to hear what Mystic U is about.

Jason Todds' Deathday

For those that were wondering it wasn't the beating or the explosion that killed him. It was "asphyxiation due to smoke." The death always bothered me and bought out the ugliness of creators/readers. Unlike other child deaths in comics that ugliness lingered for years and some of that victim blaming still exists.

So You DIDN'T read RHATO

"Conner said that Starfire would not be promiscuous in the way she was portrayed in "Red Hood & The Outlaws," though the new solo series would address the fact that she has less hangups about sexuality than most earthlings -- mostly with people telling her how she has to dress to match earth decorum." If Amanda Conner read Red Hood and the Outlaws she'd know better. Apparently "promiscuous" now means being in a relationship with ONE man (Roy Harper) and having a previous relationship with another (Dick Grayson.) Kori flirted with no one besides Roy the entire run nor had sex with anyone else. She was never actually with Jason Todd as later issues confirmed (*1) and even if she was that's considered promiscuous?! I know Dick slept with at least one woman in the new 52 Nightwing series and had a one night stand in Grayson to say nothing of Bruce Wayne. Freaking double standards. This makes me furious, really it does. I kinda of figured this would happen but I'm still upset by it. Does anyone do research on the characters they write when they take over for them? I was willing to give this book a try now I'm not.

Starfire became captain of a ship of freed slaves, saved her planet, had a moving story with her sister, a wonderful relationship with Roy and great friendship with Jason. Now all of that is being forgotten to have her suddenly ditch her friends to "learn about humans" as if she just arrived and act like none of that happened. Thanks for making this easy for me. I love the character but I'm tired of this.


*1 Kori states she's known him only as a friend. Jason rejected the idea when he thought she was suggesting it, it was implied some of it has to do with her past with Dick. He also states they had their chance but chose to friendzoned each other. So tell me who else was she supposedly sleeping with?!

I haven't gotten around to reading the interview yet (I heard he misses the point) but I saw some more concerns I didn't talk about last time which people are calling him out on.

Rear Recognition

Back when the weekly series 52 was going on there were many guesses who was under the Supernova mask. During the week where he stared at Lex Luthor through the window many noted the nicely defined rear of the hero and matched it to Booster Gold. I'm not joking, this was done on the old Scans Daily. It was noted that he's one of the characters you could ID based on his butt alone.

So I dare to ask: Can you ID a character by their posterior ?

It's been a while since I read X-Men. The stories stopped being fun awhile back, everyone seems to date everyone and a lot of the stories/family trees are overly complex. I stopped reading but I hear spoilers every now and then. The latest one has to do with my favorite X-Man Iceman/Bobby Drake.

Who is the biggest Asshole in Comics?

This was brought up by CalvinPitt over at Sally's blog so who do I personally feel is the biggest asshole in comics? I'm not going to include the more entertaining ones like Guy Gardner or even villains. These are the ones that get on my nerves and I want to see someone take them down a peg. People that as heroes shouldn't be so arrogant, cruel and/or annoying. I'll clarify if I only dislike the new 52 or older version of the character.

NOT Actual Previews from New Books?

According to this article the "previews" we'll see in upcoming Covergence books in May won't be from the actual first issues in June. Their be mini stories from those titles that stand on their own and give reads a taste of the new series. I like that since I have no idea what some are about and I didn't like the idea of spoiling things from the first issues. Better yet for digital readers these stories will be available for free online.

So Sue and Ralph...

I was thinking thanking about the couple and if they will be introduced in the new DC universe. Does anyone really want to see them with other people or starting out as a couple/not married? That's the main reason most famous couples aren't currently together, right? To create drama, to kept people guessing who's going to date who (some of it doesn't even make sense) and be different than the old world. Here's the thing...I don't think many people are interested in seeing Ralph solo. The only time I saw interest was in 52 but even then there were people losing it over the hint that he'd "hook up" with someone else.

I believe it was Morrison that pointed out that Sue and Ralph are a superhero version of Nick and Nora Charles. They play off each other, she encourages him in his pursuits and their the perfect couple. Worried it "ages" them? Have them marry younger when he was starting out as a detective. Have the superhero bit come later and be something they both have to get used to.

Musings on Gotham Academy

I stopped reviewing this book although I still get it. Since I'm in a bad mood at the moment I thought it was a good time to talk about one of my favorite series. Keep in mind that I haven't read the last issue or the Endgame one shot yet. With most of my funds going to the event comic I'll be holding off for a little while.
