Not a Bwa-Ha-Ha league

I'm a little puzzled with some of the recently proposed boycotting of JLI because it's not the same as Giffin/DeMatteis. Even they said that their retroactive issue was the last time their writing the characters. But I'm mainly confused because even with the irritation some felt for Winick most seemed okay with him writing the book like JLGL. That wasn't a BWA-HA-HA book so why is this such a shock? Jurgens said there would be some humor given the personality clashes but it's not going to be like the first JLI run. It's not going to be over the top and will be more action based. Like I stated in my last post I'd hate to go backwards. Booster may play pranks but right now he's in charge of a team trying to keep it all together. The old tone wouldn't fit anyway.

Also because it was mentioned: Jaime isn't involved because a.) he's a teen, b.) the U.N. want to know the heroes I.D.s. I do want more Blue and Gold but I understand why it's not happening right now.

Jurgens may not be known for his humor but he has it. He's the guy that had Booster poke fun at Hal Jordon. That came up with the idea of Skeets "riding" a horse. That, in his last JL run, had Booster drag Ted into a prank because he was worried Ted was becoming too Batman like. I'm not going in thinking this will be the best thing ever nor am I thinking it's the worst. I'm just going to enjoy the ride, it makes the whole thing more enjoyable.

  1. I have faith in Jurgens. I've liked his Booster from the beginning, and let's face, it, that whole issue with Jonah Hex was a hoot. And you can't really go back to the old bwhahaha days anyway. A little bit of humor is always appreciated, just as long as he can write Vixen, Fire and Ice as well as he writes the boys, I'll be a happy camper.

  3. I know from experience that I enjoy Jurgens work so I'm not worried if I'll like it. I'm a little surprised to see the comments that it HAS to be like Giffin/DeMatteis.

I do wonder what will be done with the ladies particularly Vixen. Last time she was around Booster she wasn't too fond of him.

  4. Vixen has never seemed to fond of ANYone. She was quite rude to John Stewart when they were in the League.

  5. She was quite fond of Dale Gunn for a while...

  6. I think she was fond of Roy. I liked her in the JLU cartoon, she was fun which is funny considering she was dating John.

I had to look up Dale Gunn, finding the image on him I recall reading an essay saying how insulting the character was. I never read him myself but I got the impression he had the Terry Long affect on some readers.

  7. Ahh...Dale Gunn. He was certainly catnip to the ladies in the Detroit league...for a reason that I cannot fully comprehend.

  8. Yeah, I never cared for those "we all think he's instantly dreamy" effects that have no explanation. I recall Terry Long did have that with the Titan ladies.

  9. Ladies love the combination of a bald head and a beard.

At least in Gerry Conway's world. Trust me - it doesn't translate as well to the real world!
