July 2016 DC Solicits

Let's see what we got for the second month of Rebirth.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: REBIRTH #1

Cover by TONY S. DANIEL
Variant cover by JOE MADUREIRA
Spinning out of the events of DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1, a new day dawns for Earth's greatest heroes as they welcome three new members to the team, including...Superman? Who is this strange visitor from a dead world -- and can he be trusted? Batman and Wonder Woman aren't so sure.
On sale JULY 6 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Wait--"dead world"? I thought the old DCU was fine? Convergence didn't show it being destroyed just some Batman villains. I've somehow ignored the Superman solicits and only now realize their using the old Superman even though I knew the new one was considered dead. Interesting. I might have to catch up with Lois and Clark after all.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #1

Not much to note except I like how Diana is taller than Arthur on the cover.

BATGIRL AND THE BIRDS OF PREY: REBIRTH #1
Written by JULIE BENSON and SHAWNA BENSON
Art by CLAIRE ROE
Cover by YANICK PAQUETTE
Variant cover by BEN CALDWELL
"WHO IS ORACLE" Chapter One: Batgirl and Black Canary are together again, working a case that strikes right at the heart of their partnership! Someone's uncovered the greatest secret Barbara Gordon ever kept: her time as Oracle, the most powerful hacker on the planet. And not only do they know her secret, they're using her name to sell dangerous information to criminals! Now one of those deals has brought some major heat to Gotham City...Helena Bertinelli is out of Spyral, wearing the hood of the Huntress, and making mafia blood run in the streets! Everything you thought was hidden will be revealed if the Oracle has their way...
On sale JULY 20 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Oracle? Barbara was Oracle?! Will she get the same maturity she's been sorely missing? I'm glad their retconning her being a google search engine type of "hacker" that's embarrassing.

NIGHTWING

Basically "Nightwing has to deal with his loved ones being threatened even though their all badasses and someone giving him a new perspective." Seeley turned me off to his take of Dick Grayson before so no thanks.

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS: REBIRTH #1
Written by SCOTT LOBDELL
Art by DEXTER SOY
Cover by GIUSEPPE CAMUNCOLI and CAM SMITH
Variant cover by BENGAL
When a shocking encounter with Batman solidifies the Red Hood's status as a villain, Jason Todd goes deep undercover to take down Gotham City's criminal underworld from the inside. Along the way, Jason meets two unlikely allies: a disgraced Amazon warrior named Artemis and a half-baked Superman clone called Bizarro -- and the DCU's "Dark Trinity" is born!
On sale JULY 27 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

I'm guessing Bruce is helping Jason look bad so he's the undercover one this time. Which makes more sense than Dick who didn't do too well in the Grayson issues I read. I wonder if anyone else will know, if Roy doesn't it looks bad if he doesn't look into this. I'm also a little miffed that Nightwing gets the rebirth issue and a first issue in the same month and RHATO doesn't. I want more of this story. Can you imagine the danger he'd be in and the villains he has to deal with?

Not much that I'll actually get this month, just RHATO and maybe some Superman books to catch up with Lois, Clark and Jon. According to the solicits for the Lois and Clark TPB Jon is nine when he's eight elsewhere? I'll read that at some point to see if he has a birthday or something. I'll play it by ear on how into Superman I'll get but there's really isn't a big selection for July. Not that I'm interested in anyway.
